Om to the yogi is an powerful symbol, Om is said to be the eternal word , what was, what is and what will be. The Om symbol shows a curved letter, the lower curve is said to represent the dream state, and the upper smaller curve the waking state, the centre curve coming from the back of the symbol  represents deep sleep.The semi circled new moon shape at the top is the veil of maya which the spirit needs to transcend in order to reach an enlightened state showen by the dot.
